Knowing how to identify the age of pigeons is of great importance to timely breeding and selection of improved varieties. The pigeons generally live for 10 to 15 years, but the best breeding age for breeders is 2 to 4 years old, and the meat pigeons have a production period of about 5 years. The ideal breeding age for good pigeons is 2 to 5 years old. The age of the pigeon can usually be identified from the following aspects:

Mouthparts of young pigeons have a narrow mouth, narrow and thin mouths on both sides, no knots, and a little more than one year old. Adult doves are thick and short, their ends are hard and slippery, and their mouths are wide and thick, with large scabs.

Nasal neoplasia of the naso-neural pigeon is ruddy, and the nasal tumor of the young pigeon is light red and shiny. The naval aneurysm of more than two years has a thin pink, and the nasal tumor is large and soft, moist and shiny. Pigeon nose tumors more than four or five years old are pink and rough, and those with more than ten years of pigeons are rough and dry. The volume of nasal tumors also increases slightly with age. In short, the older the pigeon, the drier the nasal tumor is, and the surface appears to be strewn with powder.

The young toes have a fine foot with soft, flat scales, a small scale, bright red, soft and pointed toenails, and a soft texture. The adult doves are stout, with coarse scales, clear phosphorous, dark red, and stiff toenails. The scales on the feet of the old birds over five years are prominent, hard and rough, white, scales clearly and distinctly, the color is purple, and the nails are stiff and curved. In general, the finer the foot, the fresher the color, the younger the pigeon's age, and vice versa.

The foot pads of young mats are thin and soft, adult dove pads are thick and hard, rough and dark in colour, usually on one side.

Feather pigeon main wing feathers can be used to identify the age of the youngster. There are 10 main wing feathers of the pigeons. At the age of 2 months, the first one will be replaced. In the next 13 days to 16 days, one will be replaced in sequence. When the last one is changed, the pigeons will be about 6 months old. It is already mature. Pairing production can begin. There are a total of 12 pigeons' main wing feathers, which can be used to identify the age of the old birds. Auxiliary wing feathers are replaced one at a time from the inside to the outside, and the replaced feathers appear slightly darker and neat.

The more spectacles on the skin of the pelt eye of the spectacles, the older the age.

Cavity capsule

The size of the bursa on the pigeon's cavity and the presence or absence of it determine the age of the pigeon. The bursa of a single pigeon is relatively large, and it becomes smaller when the old one is born. After a few years, the bursa on the cavity becomes very small, or there is only a trace left.
