Release date: 2012-12-27
The 2012 "Top Ten Science and Technology Progress of Chinese Higher Education Institutions" was announced at the plenary session of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Committee held on December 18. The brain pacemaker research project hosted by Tsinghua University was successfully selected.
In order to promote scientific and technological innovation in universities and promote innovative talents to stand out, the Science and Technology Commission of the Ministry of Education has organized and selected the top ten scientific and technological progress of higher education institutions since 1998. This year is the 15th. Other selected medical projects include the recombinant hepatitis E vaccine (E. coli) research conducted by Xiamen University, the comprehensive treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma radiotherapy and individualized treatment under the auspices of Sun Yat-sen University, and the genome-wide exposure of Anhui Medical University. Subsequence analysis revealed porokeratosis and the like.
Introduction to the Brain Pace Research Project:
Deep brain stimulation is a new method for treating brain diseases by sending electrical impulses to electrodes implanted at specific targets of the brain through a stimulator implanted in the chest. It is the preferred surgical treatment for diseases such as Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, depression, etc. Treatments such as drug addiction have potential clinical value. The deep brain stimulator (commonly known as "brain pacemaker") implanted in the human body is its core equipment and is monopolized by the United States. More than 60 million related patients in China have significant clinical value.
The team led by Professor Li Luming of Tsinghua University began research on brain pacemakers in 2000. After unremitting efforts, it has overcome technical difficulties such as integrated manufacturing, testing, and reliability, and established an intellectual property network consisting of 26 invention patents. The beater; further broke through the technology of wireless charging of the brain pacemaker implanted in the body, and successfully developed a computer pacemaker. So far, 40 clinical trials of brain pacemakers have been completed. The longest postoperative period is more than 3 years. 53 clinical trials of rechargeable computer pacemakers have been completed, and all have achieved remarkable results.
The clinical trial of the brain pacemaker was carried out by a team of Professor Zhang Jianguo from Beijing Tiantan Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University, and the team of Professor Guo Yi and Prof. Wang Renzhi from the Peking Union Medical College Hospital of China Academy of Medical Sciences and the team of Professor Zhang Shizhong from Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University.
The successful development of the brain pacemaker indicates that China has become the second country in the world to develop and produce brain pacemakers after the United States. It has a very important demonstration significance for the research and development and industrialization of China's independent high-end medical devices.
