China's new drugs target the next four high mortality diseases

The goal of the “Special Major New Drug Development Project” plan is: By 2015, 30 kinds of original innovative drugs will be developed; by 2020, China’s R&D capacity will reach the level of a world-class country and become an important engine for global pharmaceutical innovation.

Pharmaceutical innovation is a complex, expensive, and risky process. Before the successful launch of each new drug, the development process took an average of 10-15 years and the cost exceeded 8 billion yuan. Many experts called for a better environment for the development of new drugs, such as shortening the time for examination and approval of clinical trial applications. At present, China's approval time is 10-18 months, the United States is 1 month, and India is 4 months; allowing new drugs to quickly gain market access and helping patients to use new drugs as soon as possible. At present, China's national drug reimbursement catalog is updated once every 4-5 years, while Germany, the United Kingdom, and Singapore are the rolling reimbursement catalogs, and Spain, Italy, South Korea, and other countries are updated at least once a year.
