An ancient virus is hidden in our DNA

According to the British "Daily Express" report, researchers at Tufts University School of Medicine have made a surprising discovery in the analysis of human genes: an ancient virus is sleeping in human DNA.

After a genetic analysis of approximately 2,500 volunteers , the researchers found 19 new non-human DNA fragments in our genes, which resulted in a 8% non-human gene in our human body, and most It is made up of viruses.

Some of these newly discovered DNAs have been inherited for 67,000 years in humans , and some of them can affect diseases in our bodies today. However, the most surprising thing is that the experts discovered a still complete virus code, and it is possible to trigger an old virus again.

The author of the paper, John Coffin, a viral pathogen, said: "This virus seems to trigger an infectious virus, which is very exciting because it will allow us to study a viral infection that occurred a long time ago. The research team is now exploring whether the code they found (the researchers named it Xq21) can restore functionality in future generations.

Zachary Williams, co-author of the research paper, said: "Many studies have tried to link these endogenous viral principles to cancer and other diseases, but the biggest difficulty is that we have not actually found all the viruses." Viral strains are known as human endogenous retroviruses (HERVs), which replace our ancestral genes with copies of their own RNA genetic material.
