The newly-opened rice fields are dominated by annual grass weeds, and many herbicides kill these weeds. After years of planting, weeds increase every year, and some of them become refractory weeds. There are three reasons why weeds are intractable:
First, the growth environment of weeds changes. The use of acaricides for many consecutive years has reduced the number of grass weeds that are dominant, such as grasses and weeds. There is room for the survival of hard-to-reach broad-leaved weeds, which has accumulated over the years, and the number of old rice fields has increased year by year.
Second, the unique reproductive characteristics of perennial weeds. Continuing offspring have underground reproductive organs in addition to seeds. Seeds spread widely and have high density, but the underground reproductive organs have strong endurance. For example, the white-flowered Alisma and the wild arrowhead both grow underground reproductive organs called "bulbs." In addition to their ability to germinate and regenerate small "bulbs," the bulbs that grow from large "bulbs" are killed. Small "bulbs" quickly grow seedlings. Big immortals wait until the next year to grow again. Therefore, the effect of the chemical control on the weeds that grow on the seeds is good, and the underground breeding is intractable, killing a batch and growing a batch.
Thirdly, these weeds are not neatly emerged and last for a long period of time. From mid-May to mid-July, seedlings can be sprouted. The period is about 60 days, but the existing herbicides do not have such a long effective period. One application is difficult to eradicate.
