Teacup Storm Exposure Table Food Safety Mechanism Vulnerability

A number of well-known chain tea shops, "British Blue" and "50", have been tested for excessive pesticide residues in tea. It is another major food safety incident in the island's beverage industry since the plasticizer incident in 2011. A Hong Kong Ta Kung Pao commented today that Taiwan’s tea is also a must-have for many tourists. “Pesticide tea” is bound to affect overseas tourists’ confidence in food safety in Taiwan again. In less than five months this year, the problem food on the island is already a basket: pepper, stomach scattered into the industrial magnesium carbonate, the cake of the moist cake has been tested for bleach, duck blood has been made from the waste of bird blood. Wait. It seems that there are still many loopholes in the food safety mechanism in Taiwan and there is no need to add a Supplement.

In the recent month, the Taiwanese beverage industry continued to suffer from "cup storms." A number of well-known chain tea shops, "British Blue" and "50", have been tested for excessive pesticide residues in tea. It is another major food safety incident in the island's beverage industry since the plasticizer incident in 2011. Although tea was the main problem this time, the island’s tea shops have mushroomed in recent years. The various types of tea beverages that are made nowadays have become favorite beverages for Taiwanese citizens and are now found to be harmful to human health. The pesticides shocked the whole island, public opinion was awe-inspiring. In particular, some of the tea shops also opened branches in Hong Kong and the mainland. Taiwan’s “poisonous tea incident” also caused great concern on the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. Taiwanese tea is also a must-have for many tourists. "Pesticide tea" is bound to affect overseas tourists' confidence in Taiwan's food safety again.

Taiwan tea sales line for many years, why recently have frequently found excessive pesticide residues in tea? This again exposed serious loopholes in the food safety mechanism on the island. According to the inspection report of the relevant departments of the island, the tea in question has both imported tea and local tea in Taiwan. Taiwan's annual tea production is only 17,000 tons. It is far from meeting the needs of the industry in the island. It needs to import more than 30,000 tons each year, of which two-thirds come from Vietnam. In Vietnam, local labor costs are low, land is large, and the price of tea is nearly 40% cheaper than local tea in Taiwan, which is quite popular with the beverage industry in the island. Of imported Vietnam tea, 85% are used in beverage stores, supermarkets, canned teas, and teabags, and the other 15% are processed into Taiwanese Oolong specialty teas for export. Recently, "Britain Blue" has been found to contain many pesticide ingredients from Vietnam.

For long-term high-volume imports of tea from one region, Taiwan’s inspection department did not realize that there was a problem with the tea in the region. This was a serious oversight. The “British blue” tea was found to contain pesticides. The reason was that some people had felt unwell after drinking the rose tea in the shop. After the relevant departments detected the problem, they tested the tea and tea drinks that were sold on the market. Only to find more tea leaves with excessive pesticide residues. Some local tea growers on the island point out that from the “central” to the local governments, there has been no sampling of pesticides from teas sold by large-scale tea traders for many years. If unexploded bombs are triggered, the disaster situation will be difficult to dispose of. Some counties and cities’ health departments stated that the cost of sending tea samples is quite high. They generally only cooperate with the “central” sampling program and recognize that in the past there was no sampling of pesticides and heavy metals in tea imported from sources that had mixed concerns.

In fact, in December last year, there were also cases in which well-known tea merchants seized high-end tea in the form of cheap tea. At that time, some tea traders disclosed that it was an open secret that the industry knew that some people imported cheaper tea from Taiwan and mixed it with Taiwanese tea. It can be seen that the tea used in the “British Blue” concocted tea beverage contains a carcinogenic pesticide and it is surprising.
