Recently, researchers from the special medical department of the 94th Hospital of the People's Liberation Army published a paper to explore the application value of real-time three-dimensional echocardiography in the diagnosis of atrial septal defect . Research indicates that real-time three-dimensional echocardiography has important application value for the diagnosis of ASD. The article was published in the 2014 issue of the People's Military Medical Journal.
33 cases of clinically diagnosed atrial septal defect (ASD) were selected. Conventional two-dimensional ultrasound and real-time three-dimensional echocardiography were performed. The size and shape of the defect were measured and analyzed, and the measured values were compared with the surgical results.
Real-time three-dimensional echocardiography can stereoscopically display the overall view of the interatrial septum from multiple perspectives (even simulating the surgical path), including the overall shape, location, size, and adjacency of the defect; compared to the maximum diameter and area of the ASD measured by two-dimensional ultrasound. Real-time three-dimensional ultrasound measurements of ASD maximum long axis diameter and area were more correlated with surgical outcomes (r = 0.97, r = 0.84).
