The main purpose of the feeding of cotton-fed ewes is through the scientific combination of a variety of feeds, to achieve the nutrition of the cotton ewes, but also to maximize the savings of feed, so that the cost of feed into the lowest. It is now planned to use 60 kg of adult cotton ewes as an example to introduce the feed formulation technology of shed-feeding cotton ewes under appropriate conditions.

1 Determine feeding standards

Since there is no unified standard for feeding cotton ewes in the country, the “nutritional requirements for ramie ewes” formulated by the United States (NRC) is adopted as the breeding standard. Due to the different nutritional requirements of ewes during pregnancy and breastfeeding, the United States (NRC) has allocated the ramian ewes to four different periods within a year: the first stage is non-lactating or the first 15 weeks before gestation; The stage is the last 6 weeks of gestation or the last 8 weeks of suckling; the 3rd stage is 8 weeks before the nursing single lamb or the last 8 weeks of the suckling twins; the 4th stage is 8 weeks before the suckling.

2 Select feed

In order to achieve a variety of feed mix, here the roughage selection of Leymus chinense, alfalfa hay, corn stalks and straw, with the ratio of 2:1:5:2 proposed; concentrates mainly use corn, wheat bran and soybean meal (or bean cake).

Due to the different requirements for digestible protein at each stage, the type of concentrate is also different. In Phases 1 and 2, due to low protein requirements, corn and wheat bran were used as supplementary concentrates and mixed in a 6:4 ratio.

The third stage and the fourth stage require a large amount of protein, supplemented with corn, wheat bran and soybean meal (or soybean cake), and mixed with 6:3:1 ratio.

3 Mianyang sheep feed formulation and feed intake at each stage

(1) Stage 1 crude concentrate formula.

Roughage (day feeding amount: 0.92 kg) Formula: 25% of Leymus chinensis, 10% of alfalfa hay, 50% of corn stalk, 20% of straw, and concentrate feed (0.545 kg per day) Formula: 68.81% for corn and 28.44% for wheat bran Calcium hydrogen phosphate 2.2%, salt 0.55%.

(2) Phase 2 crude concentrate formula.

Roughage (day feed amount 1.52 kg) Formula: Leymus 20%, alfalfa hay 10%, corn stover 50%, straw 20%; fine material (day feeding amount 0.661 kg) formula: corn 46.29%, wheat bran 50.38 %, Calcium hydrogen phosphate 2.87%, Salt 0.46%.

The use of the formula of cotton ewes daily lacks 6.13 mg of carotene, 0.2 kg of carrots per day can meet the needs. Vitamin A, vitamin D supplement can use vitamin A-D mixture, according to the product manual.

(3) Stage 3 crude concentrate feed formulation.

Roughage (day feed amount 1.02 kg) Formula: Leymus 20%, alfalfa hay 10%, corn stover 50%, straw 20%; concentrate (day feed 1.58 kg) formula: corn 65.54%, wheat bran 29.15%, soybean meal 2.41%, calcium hydrogen phosphate 2.41%, salt 0.49%.

(4) Stage 4 crude concentrate feed formulation.

Roughage (day feed amount of 1.19 kg) formula: Leymus 20%, alfalfa hay 10%, corn stover 50%, straw 20%; concentrate (day feed 1.77 kg) formula: corn 61.16%, wheat bran 29.23%, soybean meal 6.97%, calcium hydrogen phosphate 2.15%, salt 0.49%. Http://
