A team of researchers from the Tokyo Metropolitan Health and Longevity Medical Center Research Institute and Keio University found that the expression of CLEC3B gene in long-lived elderly people is usually similar, indicating that the CLEC3B gene may be associated with longevity.

The researchers collected blood samples from 530 elderly people over 95 years old and 4312 people under 80 years old, and analyzed the genetic information of blood samples. Most of the longevity elderly group is over 100 years old. The researchers found that in addition to the known apolipoprotein E associated with longevity, the long-lived elderly group, the gene CLEC3B, is involved in the production of a protein called Tetranectin, which is associated with preventing cancer cell metastasis and bone formation. From the ratio of base pair substitutions on specific fragments of this gene, the replacement rate of ordinary people is 19%, and the replacement rate of long-lived elderly people is 26%.

Japan’s Asahi Shimbun quoted researchers as saying that although the CLEC3B gene is not the only factor that plays a decisive role in longevity, at least “it has played a role in combating aging”. They believe that the CLEC3B gene can contribute up to 30% to longevity, and the rest depends on healthy eating and exercise. (Qiao Ying) [Xinhua Newsletter]
