Finnish researchers found that ingesting more plant protein may reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The results are published in the British Journal of Nutrition.
Researchers from the University of Eastern Finland began tracking the diet of 2,332 middle-aged and non-type II diabetics in 1984 and 1989. During the 19-year survey, 432 people were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. The researchers found that diets rich in animal proteins, including processed meats, as well as unprocessed red meat and white meat, are associated with increased risk of type 2 diabetes. The researchers believe that this association may be the result of the action of other ingredients in the meat, because only the animal protein itself has no association with the risk of type II diabetes. In addition, milk protein and fish protein are not linked to the risk of type 2 diabetes, and egg proteins can even help reduce risk.
Today's medical news website quoted the results of the survey on the 22nd, the largest intake of plant protein intake of a group of survey respondents, the risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes than the group with the lowest intake of 35%. In addition, diets that contain a large number of plant protein surveys usually have a healthier lifestyle, but their lifestyle is not sufficient to explain the lower risk of type 2 diabetes.
Researchers believe that the reason for the lower risk of diabetes associated with plant proteins may be that the plant protein in food affects blood glucose levels. At the beginning of the survey, blood glucose levels were lower in subjects who consumed more plant protein.
A CT scan makes use of computer-processed combinations of many X-ray images taken from different angles to produce cross-sectional (tomographic) images (virtual "slices") of specific areas of a scanned object, allowing the user to see inside the object without cutting.
